How I decorated our home on a budget

“Oooh I love that turquoise lamp!”

“Thanks, I got it on sale at Kirkland’s, plus I had a 20% off coupon on top of that!”

“Oh my gosh those throw pillows match your curtains perfectly!”

“Thanks! They were only $15.99 at TJ Maxx and the curtains I found brand new at a second-hand store.”

I have these conversations every time someone comes to our house for the first time. It doesn’t take long before they get bored with my “it was on sale” or “I had a coupon” responses and quit asking questions.

When we bought our house, I spent many many hours browsing the aisles of places like Marshalls, TJ Maxx, Target, Ross, and Kirkland’s looking for the best deals on home decor that fit our style and personalities. I was talking with someone about this recently and they suggested that I write a blog post about how I decorated every room of our house on a budget. I’m not an extreme couponer, and I don’t really have any secret tips or tricks, but I will share with you how I save big $$$ on decorating our home. Pinterest: Helping or Hindering Creativity?

Being almost 5 1/2 months pregnant (get used to me shamelessly plugging my pregnancy into every post), the nursery planning and decorating is in full swing.

As I was driving home from work the other day, I started yet another to-do list in my head of things I need to get for baby girl’s new space. While pondering curtain colors and crib bedding patterns, I almost instinctively thought well I’ll just look it up on Pinterest when I get home. 

I realized in that moment, that as soon as that little red and white “P” icon popped into my head, my creative thinking stopped. I’ve been thinking about this incident ever since.
