How I decorated our home on a budget

“Oooh I love that turquoise lamp!”

“Thanks, I got it on sale at Kirkland’s, plus I had a 20% off coupon on top of that!”

“Oh my gosh those throw pillows match your curtains perfectly!”

“Thanks! They were only $15.99 at TJ Maxx and the curtains I found brand new at a second-hand store.”

I have these conversations every time someone comes to our house for the first time. It doesn’t take long before they get bored with my “it was on sale” or “I had a coupon” responses and quit asking questions.

When we bought our house, I spent many many hours browsing the aisles of places like Marshalls, TJ Maxx, Target, Ross, and Kirkland’s looking for the best deals on home decor that fit our style and personalities. I was talking with someone about this recently and they suggested that I write a blog post about how I decorated every room of our house on a budget. I’m not an extreme couponer, and I don’t really have any secret tips or tricks, but I will share with you how I save big $$$ on decorating our home. #blessed

Man, it’s been a hot minute. This stay-at-home mom stuff is no joke! Little one keeps me busy 24/7 and I’ve missed my blogging time!

Just wanted to share with you all a little bit about my day so far. This morning, like so many of us do, I turned to social media in a time of frustration. Yup, I used good ol’ Snapchat as my whipping post/soapbox because my day didn’t get off on the right start. So, I threw on a “cute” filter (you know, the one that takes the tired out of your voice and the bags from under your eyes, maybe even adds some cute furry animal ears for added effect), and I unloaded.

Didn’t sleep last night because of the storm, internet was out so no morning cartoons to keep little one occupied while I got ready, Keurig decided to spit a load of coffee grounds into my mug this morning (which I drank anyway, because, well, momma can’t run without her fuel), the dog went through the bathroom trash to shred up some used tissues, oh and my hair…it’s a hot mess all of its own today. Blah, blah, blah, complain, complain, complain.

I posted my rant, and sat back waiting for the satisfaction to set in. Except, it didn’t. Continue reading “#blessed”

Home.

Home is the nicest word there is.

Yesterday my husband and I got to celebrate American’s birthday at our favorite place, home.

We love our home. We’ve lived there for a year and a half now, and we’re still working on various projects to make it our “own”. All the work we’ve put into it already makes it so worth coming home to at the end of the day. It’s fun to look back at pictures of when we first bought it and see all the changes and personal touches we’ve made to it already!

Home is our favorite place to be together, but lately it feels like it’s our least visited and most neglected place. We’ve been in a season of traveling, camping, late work nights, and all the fun busyness that summer brings. Even the days when one of us would be home, it seemed like the other always had something going on.

So yesterday, after several weeks of going non-stop, we got to enjoy the entire day at home. Together. And it was fantastic.
